Judge Sikri rejects offer to head Commonwealth Tribunal
Justice Sikri is set to retire in the month of
March and was recommended for the position. News outlet The Print reported that the centre had offered him the position for his vote to remove CBI Chief Alok Verma.Justice Sikri reportedly has withdrawn his consent that he had given earlier for the position because of the recently developments and reportage around it.
Right to Disconnect bill introduced in Parliament
The bill addresses the work-life balance for employees.Employees can reject calls, texts, emails or any forms of communication from their employer after work hours.The bill applies to all companies with more than 10 employees and the companies need to set up a welfare committee to ensure compliance.
Macedonia renamed as Republic of Northern Macedonia
The country’s parliament passed the resolution and got two-thirds necessary majority.The opposition parties had boycotted the parliamentary voting.Greece was strongly opposed to the older name and it accused the country of appropriating Greek culture and said the name causes confusion with the Macedonian region in Greece.

SC asks Centre to respond to PIL against government’s IT interception notification
The PIL was filed questioning the central government’s notification which gives 10 agencies power to intercept and monitor any computer or communication device.The Court has given the government six weeks to respond.The central government had authorised Intelligence Bureau, Narcotics Control Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (for Income Tax Department), Directorate Revenue Intelligence, Central Bureau of Investigation, National Investigation Agency, the Research and Analysis Wing, Directorate of Signal Intelligence, and Delhi Police commissioner snooping powers on any communication device with authorisation from competent agencies.

Chhattisgarh schools mid-day meal to include eggs to increase protein intake
The eggs can substituted with milk or other protein products for vegetarian students.The government said that samples were collected from 66 schools in 19 districts to check the nutritional value and thus the decision to include egg was reached.The circular also said that mid-day meals must also include local, seasonal fruits and whole grain rice.
Amit Shah diagnosed with swine flu
BJP President has been admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi and is undergoing treatment for swine flu.The flu-like symptom from the H1N1 influenza strain first originated in pigs and thus named as swine flu.Amit Shah tweeted “I hope to get better with God’s grace and your wishes.”
Centre plans to process I-T return within a day’s time
The project has been handed to Infosys and is expected to be completed in 18 months.Union Minister Piyush Goyal informed the new system will enable processing of return in a day’s time instead of 63 days.He also informed that only 0.2% of those who file returns will need to get them rectified.
Government launches two science-related channels
DD Science and India Science channels were launched with an aim to popularise science.Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan launched the DD Science channel which we be telecast from Monday to Saturday from 5 pm to 6 pm, and India Science online channel at indiascience.in
Vigyan Prasar will manage and implement both the projects and will be supported by Department of Science and Technology.
